History

Island City Baptist Church was organized and constituted with 22 charter members on November 23, 1979. As a Southern Baptist Church, we are an autonomous body, exercising a congregational form of church government. We have chosen to affiliate with the Southern Baptist Convention, Nashville, Tennessee; The Illinois Baptist State Convention, Springfield, Illinois; and with the Three Rivers Baptist Association, Shorewood, Illinois.

In April of 1999, the church called its first and current pastor, Reverend Ron Taylor. Nearly three years later, in October, 2002, the church bought its present facility which was formerly known as the First Baptist Church of Wilmington, Illinois.

Today, the church has grown to a membership of 299 and we continue to find ourselves being blessed by God beyond what we could ever imagine. We are thankful to God and give Him all the glory for the great things He has done; but even more, we are excited about what He is doing today and for what He has planned for our future.

Our mission is clear: Make Disciples of Jesus Christ. Our strategy is simple: Love others by sharing Jesus Christ with them. Our message is without compromise: “Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man comes to the Father except through Him” (John 14:6). Our invitation is open: You are welcomed to come join our fellowship.
